Melbourne College of Divinity was constituted by an Act passed by the Parliament of the State of Victoria in December 1910 (Melbourne College of Divinity Act). Since its inception, the College has been committed to providing ecumenical Christian education of the highest order through the awarding of a variety of degrees and diplomas, from undergraduate to doctoral level. The College is listed as a Table B (private, self-regulating) Higher Education Institution in the Higher Education Support Act 2003.
The College is committed
to offering the highest standards of teaching and research in internationally recognized theological and ministerial education
to the understanding of faith in secular contexts
to the integrity of the Christian churches and enriching the churches through the highest quality research and teaching.
The College encourages both scholars and students to explore opportunities to anchor their faith in understanding, and in a spirit of dialogue to engage with wider social contexts.
Like all tertiary institutions, the College has a central administration, together with academic, managerial, financial and governance committees whose responsibilities are to regulate educational standards throughout the institution, and to administer the College effectively and efficiently. The College currently consists of seven Recognized Teaching Institutions, comprising 8 Colleges and one specialist institution, which operate individually and collegially within the framework of the MCD.
